Study: NADA Tackles Factory Image Programs with First-Ever Cost Analysis
McLEAN, Va., Aug. 29 – NADA has commissioned an independent study to take an in-depth look at the cost effectiveness of factory image programs that require new-car dealers to invest billions of dollars each year. NADA Chairman Stephen W. Wade, who’s traveled across the country speaking to dealers, says one resounding concern he’s hearing over and over, regardless of dealership size or brand, is the frustration dealers have with their manufacturer's facility image programs.
“These investments have a significant impact on dealer balance sheets, in many cases severely straining them and in some cases even persuading a dealer to leave the business rather than commit to such a large investment,” Wade said. (Read more)
NADA Calls for Nominees for 'Hiring Our Heroes' Award

WASHINGTON, Aug. 25 – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for its first annual “Hiring Our Heroes” award from businesses across the country—including new-car dealerships—that are taking active leadership roles in employing U.S. military veterans and their spouses. “We have long supported the ‘Hiring Our Heroes’ program,” said Stephen W. Wade, chairman of the National Automobile Dealers Association. "We're pleased the Chamber of Commerce is now recognizing businesses that are hiring military veterans with an awards program each year.” The nominations are due no later than noon Friday, Sept. 23. LAS VEGAS, July 25 – President George W. Bush and Sergio Marchionne, chief executive officer of Chrysler Group and Fiat S.p.A., are the scheduled keynote speakers for the 2012 NADA and ATD Convention and Expo in Las Vegas next February.
NADA chairmen Stephen Wade and Bill Underriner will also deliver industry remarks. The inspirational address will be provided by Aron Ralston, who had to amputate his right arm with a knife to free himself from a boulder after a hiking accident. His autobiography “Between a Rock and a Hard Place” was the subject of the film “127 Hours.” (Read more)
AutoFocus: NADA Provides Guidance on New Adverse Action Notice Disclosures
Dealers and other creditors who use a credit score in taking adverse action — such as turning down a request for credit — are now required to include new credit score disclosures in their adverse action notices.
To help dealers comply with the new credit-disclosure rules, NADA has published a video, an AutoFocus interview with NADA's Brad Miller, and issued a new "Dealer Guide to Adverse Action Notices" and a new "Dealer Guide to the Risk-Based Pricing Rule." (Read more)
Prices of Fuel-Efficient Used Cars Still High in August
McLEAN, Va., July 22 – Although used car prices likely peaked in June, average trade-in values of many popular, fuel-efficient small cars for the 2006-2009 model years are still expected to be 10 to 30 percent higher in August 2011 than they were at the beginning of the year, says Jonathan Banks, senior analyst with the NADA Used Car Guide. NADA Urges Dealers to Take Survey on Energy Use
Survey data collected will help dealerships reduce energy costs and protect the environment
McLEAN, Va., June 29 – NADA is urging its members across the country to take a new survey on their energy usage at the dealership.
Based on the survey results, the Environmental Protection Agency will produce a 1-to-100 ENERGY STAR performance scale, which will allow dealerships to compare their energy use to other dealerships nationwide. (Read more)
NADA Issues NADA DATA 2011: State of the Auto Industry ReportMcLEAN, Va., June 22 – The financial performance of new-car and -truck dealerships improved in 2010 despite a slow economic recovery, says Paul Taylor, NADA chief economist, in the trade group's latest report on the state of the industry.
New-car dealerships on average employed 50 people with an annual payroll of about $2.6 million in 2010, an increase from 2009, according to NADA DATA 2011, an analysis of the U.S. car and truck industry. (Read more)
