Sen. Grooms Appointed to
Interim Study Committee On Education
Local legislator tapped by Senate leader for two other key commissions
STATEHOUSE (July 8, 2011) – Indiana Senate President Pro Tem David Long (R-Fort Wayne) today appointed State Sen. Ron Grooms (R-Jeffersonville) as a member of the Interim Study Committee on Education Issues.
Long also tapped Grooms to serve as a member of the Commission for a Drug Free Indiana and the Health Finance Commission.
During summer and fall months when the legislature is not in session full time, lawmakers utilize bipartisan study committees and commissions to conduct in-depth research into complex issues facing Hoosiers. Often their work results in solutions and legislation that might otherwise go unaccomplished during the fast pace of the winter- and springtime legislative session, Long said.
Long said the Interim Study Committee on Education Issues will study how to improve graduation rates by reviewing best practices of other states and measuring the impact school counselors, teachers, administrators and parents have on achievement. Members will also examine superintendent compensation throughout Indiana and evaluate whether a statewide salary cap based upon the number of students per school district would be beneficial.
“Senator Grooms brings a unique blend of knowledge and passion to these committees to help Indiana move forward,” Long said. “I’m glad we have someone with such a wealth of experience to call upon for these important meetings.”
Grooms Ranked Among State’s Most Pro-Job Legislators
Indiana Chamber Applauds Jeffersonville lawmaker’s
Low Tax, Limited Government Voting Record
STATEHOUSE (July 15, 2011) – State Sen. Ron Grooms (R-Jeffersonville) is ranked among the state’s most pro-job lawmakers, according to the Indiana Chamber of Commerce.
Chamber rankings listed Grooms tied for third place among the 50 Senate members with his employer-friendly voting pattern. The statewide organization – which represents the interests of more than 26,000 Hoosier businesses, their employees and customers – credited the senator for supporting job growth and economic development in the state.
“As an owner of a small business for 36 years, I truly understand the importance of having state policies that encourage private-sector economic growth,” Grooms said. “I am honored to receive the Chamber’s recognition and will continue to make creating a business friendly environment in our state a top priority as a member of the Senate Committee on Commerce and Economic Development.”
Sen. Ron Grooms Praised for 100%
Percent Voting Attendance Record
STATEHOUSE (May 12, 2011) — Senate President Pro Tempore David Long (R-Fort Wayne) today praised State Sen. Ron Grooms (R-Jeffersonville) for his outstanding 2011 voting attendance record of 100 percent.
“In his first term of office, Senator Grooms has shown strong dedication to ensuring the voices of his constituents in Southern Indiana are heard at the Statehouse,” Long said. “His excellent voting record shows how committed he is to making the tough decisions necessary to make Indiana a better place for all Hoosiers now and in the future.”
During the 2011 session, state records show 299 of 317 Third Reading roll call votes in the Senate were bipartisan in nature. Of these, 128 were unanimous.
“This session, 118 Senate bills moved to the governor’s desk,” Long said. “These pieces of legislation represent the people’s work — efforts state legislators extend to give back to Hoosiers and make Indiana a better place to be employed, live and raise a family.”
Long added that Grooms’ floor votes totaled 535.
