LAS VEGAS, NV – After one of the most exciting battles of the season in the preliminary rounds, requiring two “One More Times” to move on to the Top 4, Team Falken’s Darren McNamara appeared on a hot streak in the Formula Drift Championship event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway until he finished second in the final to Rhys Millen. The standings, going into the final event at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, CA, have Team Falken’s veteran member Daijiro “Dai” Yoshihara in first, followed by Justin Pawlak in 2nd and McNamara in third. Defending Formula Drift Champion Vaughn Gittin, Jr., sits in 8th, while final Falken teammate Tyler McQuarrie is in 9th.  Falken privateer Ross Petty is 16th.

The heat of the day extended into the night as the Formula D “After Dark” Vegas track encountered a constantly changing surface, making qualifying a challenge for Team Falken. Gittin Jr. was the top Falken qualifier in 5th, while Yoshihara was 6th, with the remainder of the team sitting in 12th and beyond.
Strong team spirit existed throughout the Falken camp as Pawlak, sitting second in the Championship, experienced catastrophic engine failure in his Ford Mustang, and a collective decision was made to swap him into McQuarrie’s 350Z while Tyler would pil

U.S. and Canadian Cities with Highest Speed Trap Activity Identified
By GaugeMagazine
Posted 08-30-2011
Waunakee, WI (MMD Newswire) August 30, 2011 -- The National Motorists Association (NMA) released a list of 25 cities with the highest number of reported speed trap locations over the past two years. The speed trap sites were posted by the public on the NMA's National Speed Trap Exchange (www.speedtrap.org).
With the busy Labor Day holiday approaching, and the school year about to begin, the drivers' rights organization hopes that motorists safely anticipate, rather than suddenly react to, ticketing operations known as speed traps. Speed traps are characterized by arbitrarily low speed limits and heavy traffic enforcement. Motorists should be alert in those areas to avoid receiving citations.
The Speed Trap Exchange identifies the specific locations of thousands of chronic speed traps in the United States and Canada. Information about each listing is enhanced by commentary from motorists who have encountered the police operations.
The following cities had the most reported speed traps since September 1, 2009. They are ranked by speed traps per 100,000 residents (per the 2010 census).
1. Livonia, Michigan .............................       27.9 speed traps per 100,000 residents
2. Windsor, Ontario ..............................       17.6
3. Orlando, Florida ..............................       17.2
4. Las Vegas, Nevada .............................       11.1
5. Denver, Colorado ..............................       10.9

Universal Lubricants: Universal Lubricants Car Care Tips for Smooth Labor Day Driving
By GaugeMagazine
Posted 08-30-2011
WICHITA, Kan., Aug. 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --
To avoid the frustration and potential safety hazards of car troubles over the Labor Day weekend, Universal Lubricants recommends an easy, do-it-yourself, four step inspection before hitting the road this holiday.
Check all fluids, including engine oil, power steering, brake and transmission, as well as windshield washer solvent and antifreeze/coolant.
Check the hoses and belts that can become cracked, brittle, frayed, loose or show signs of excessive wear. These are critical to the proper functioning of the electrical system, air conditioning, power steering and the cooling system.
Check the tires, including tire pressure and tread. Uneven wear indicates a need for wheel alignment. Tires should also be checked for bulges and bald spots.
Check the wipers and lighting so that you can see and be seen. Check that all interior and exterior lighting is working properly and inspect and replace worn wiper blades so you can see clearly when driving during precipitation.

"As delightful as driving and road-trips can be during the summer season, the increased use and added mileage can take a toll on engines. From everyone at Universal Lubricants, let's take the time to be safe and be smart before getting behind the wheel this we

Freitas Offroad Motorsports Comes From The Back To Finish First In Class 1 At Vegas To Reno
By GaugeMagazine
Posted 08-29-2011

In only his second season racing in Best In The Desert’s unlimited ranks, Garrick Freitas has made his presence known by winning the TSCO Vegas to Reno race.  Winning in desert racing’s premier Class 1500 and coming in 2nd overall out of 298 vehicles in the longest off-road race in America was anything but easy though.  Freitas was still harboring demons from last year’s Vegas to Reno event.  In 2010 Garrick was running at the front of the pack when he cart wheeled his Jimco Champion less than 100 miles from the finish line.

Knowing that in order to finish first, first you must finish, Garrick took a more conservative approach to this year’s race.  This philosophy netted him a starting position of 26th from Friday’s qualifying, well back from his 9th place qualifying position at last year’s race.  Even that did not cause him to deviate from his game plan though, and the Tulare, California resident knew that he had to remain patient to overcome not only the 38 other Class 1500 competitors vying for the win, but also the 549 miles of brutal Nevada desert.

When the green flag dropped, Garrick quickly settled in to a fast and sustainable pace in his Jimco Champion with his father Danny navigating.  “Everything just fell into place today,” Garrick noted at the finish line.  “We were 2nd in points coming into Vegas to Reno last year and the wreck basically ended our season.  I was not about to make the same mistakes this year; my goal was to finish the race without any flat tires.”  This strategy, combined with skillful and efficient
